Every morning Steve and I workout in the gym here on campus. Well, this morning when we were walking into Moody we noticed a bird had trapped itself inside the building and was flying franticly around the halls trying to get outside. As we got closer Steve noticed it was not a bird but a bat. Moody has been known to have bats so we were not surprised by this. As we got closer to the scared animal it calmed down and hung itself in the corner of the ceiling. Right before we passed Steve kinda laughed and said "wouldn't it be funny if it dive bombed us?" I think the bat heard his comment because as soon as he finished his sentence the bat sure did dive bomb us! We both ducked and hit the ground right as the flying mammal flew over our heads. On his upward swoop we notice he was coming back for more so we start running down the hall. There are 2 things you must know: 1) this is hilarious so we are laughing extremely hard and 2) bats do not give up. After we had run a couple steps we stopped and turned to see where our friend had flown to. This made the experience all the more funny because when we turned we came face to face with the bat- he was still chasing us! We ran the rest of the way and busted into the gym laughing. We are laughing pretty hard at this point and make a scene when we come in the room.. I don't think everyone thought it was as funny as we did. All during my workout I could see the bat flying back and forth in front of the door- as if he was waiting on his next victim to enter into the hall:)!
We had no bat problems when we were walking home- guess he got tired of waiting. Laughter is good for the soul. Because I started off the morning with laughter I am in a pretty good mood right now, or maybe it is because I survived an attack by a wild animal. Either way it was a funny story- thought I would share:)!!
Death is an anomaly if you think about it. One minute the person is there with you, the next they are gone. My grandmother passed away Thursday around 4 pm. She went peacefully. My mom and dad were both in the room when she passed, I am glad they were there for that. The memorial was Saturday morning at 11. It was a nice, simple service. I enjoyed the simplicity. The flowers were breathtaking, my grandmother would have like them. After the service I went with my mother up to the nursing home where my grandmother lived for the past 5 years. I love those people for taking care of her. One of the directors even came to the memorial, I appreciate that kind of compassion. It was surreal seeing her room empty. One minute she was there and the next she was gone. Sometimes it is hard to hear people say "they are in a better place" after you have lost a loved one because we, as humans, want to hold onto them here on earth. But she really is in a better place, I am glad we go to a better place after this life.
I am learning so much right now- this is an interesting time in my life. Between grad school, the pregnancy center, life in a dorm, and camps I am getting all sorts of life experiences from many different sources. It is an exciting thing to know God is forming and shaping me right now- just hurts sometimes when I can feel it:). I also want to point out I have an incredible husband, this is not new news, just wanted to restate the obvious. The support and love I felt from him this week was priceless. Saturday evening on our trip home we made a detour in Lubbock and spent time with some good friends, ate at my favorite Thai food restaurant, sat in a fabulous hot tub, and unraveled from the weekend with Starbucks and good conversation. It is good to have friends.
Blessings on the new week ahead of you.
I have many reasons to be glad this morning, so I thought I would share.
1. Believe it or not I am very glad Spring Break is over. I think I did more school work this past week then I do in a normal week.
2. It rained all weekend here in the Big Country. The grass is turning green- makes everything look so happy.
3. Today is the first day of Spring- I love this time of the year.
4. My work out this morning was very refreshing- my body feels good.
5. Saturday Steve and I drove to Amarillo. Would you believe that we actually drove through snow- snow!! The weather was crazy that day. We saw light rain, heavy rain, very heavy rain, fog, heavy fog, a mile stretch of snow, and at one point calm skies. God is so creative.
6. I got to see my family this weekend. It was great to see them.
**On a different note: We went to Amarillo this weekend to see my grandmother. She is in a nursing home up there and she is not doing well. Please pray for my family during this time.
Steve and I spent the weekend in San Angelo hanging out with his Granddad. He is doing much better (thanks for the prayers)! In fact, yesterday he felt well enough to take a walk around the halls of the hospital. It was good to see him up and around. Here is a picture of Granddad and I at Steve's graduation in December 2003. He is such a wonderful man- everyone needs a person like him in their life!
Well, I am officially on Spring Break and I have a confession- Spring Break is not as exciting as it use to be. I do not have classes this week, but I still have to work, study for another midterm the week after the break, and work on some projects due in a couple of weeks. But there is one exciting thing about the break: the dorm is quite- priceless:)!
This picture was taken this weekend- all my college roommates were in town. We got to hang out, be girls, and host a shower for one of the roommates that is getting married this summer. It was so good to see and spend time with them.
I also want to ask for prayers. Steve's granddad has been in the hospital for 3 weeks with some heart and colon issues. We received a call Saturday he was not doing well so Sunday we made a trip to see him. He is on the road to recovery, but it is going to be long and hard. I also received a call Sunday night that my cousin had been in a car accident. He flipped his car a couple of times. He is okay- no broken bones or surgeries, but he did hurt his ear pretty bad and has a deep gash on his leg. Please pray for healing for both of this precious people.
I love this picture. Reminds me that we all have an "inner super hero" inside of us. This picture is also special to me because squirrels are special to me- Kojies, bid night, I need to say no more:)! So I thought I would share this fun photo with you- enjoy!
Monday and Tuesday night I had the pleasure of listening to two wonderful speakers. Monday night I went to hear Kathleen Norris speak in Hart Auditorium. The title of her lecture was Saying "I love God" is like saying "Eat Wheaties". She talked about how commercial our society has become and how we flippantly throw around sacred words in our advertising. Very interesting, intriguing, and a little controversial- I loved it:)! I bought her book The Cloister Walk. This is what I am currently reading- when I am not covered in Mental Health reading.
Last night Steve and I went to hear Gary Thomas, author of Sacred Marriage, speak in Cullen. He was wonderful. Now, I am not a big fan of dating, engagement, or marriage "how to books", but his book is worth the read. It is not so much an how to book as it is an how you should book. Thomas' book follows one simple rule- live for God above all. Throughout his book he poses one simple question- what if God created marriage to make us holy, not happy? The book is great and it was good to be reminded about our purpose in marriage. Makes me appreciate the man I am married to even more- what an incredible gift God has given me.
Other than that I have been busy with school , work, and the Pregnancy Center. Midterms are next week- pray!!!
